Our country has an unprecedented opportunity to own our energy
future. We have the technology to make our cars go farther on a gallon
of gas. Through improved gas mileage for our cars and trucks, better
transportation choices, and clean fuels like ethanol and biodiesel, we
could save more than twice the amount of oil we import from the Persian
Gulf – over 7 million barrels of oil per day.
Unfortunately,
instead of sensible solutions like raising gas mileage standards, the
Bush administration and some in Congress are pushing to allow drilling
in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
What our nation needs is
leaders who support moving American in a new direction that puts our
national security, our environment and our children’s futures above Big
Oil and other powerful interests. Permanently protecting the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge from Big Oil is a big step in that direction.
