Environmental Campaign Staff
Jobs That Matter, a project of the Fund for Public Interest Research, is hiring college students, recent graduates, and activists across the country to build citizen support for Environment America, working to fight global warming, promote clean energy, and protect our last wild places. Campaign staff go out into communities to talk with citizens about the issues, raise money, and build membership for Environment America. Staff also have the opportunity to work with the media, build coalitions, and mobilize activists. Grand Canyon protected from toxic mining


Our campaign to protect the Grand Canyon from toxic mining won a significant victory. Led by Rep. Raul Grijalva (Az.), the House Natural Resources Committee voted 20-2 to protect the lands near the the Grand Canyon from toxic mining waste. With prices for gold and uranium soaring, mining companies have staked more than 1,100 claims within five miles of the canyon—placing this national treasure at unprecedented risk from cyanide and other toxic chemicals used in mining.
