Congress stages more grandstanding against clean water

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning a U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works subcommittee held a hearing on S. 1140, the bill sponsored by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) to derail the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water Rule. This afternoon, members of a separate Senate committee on small business will argue that clean water protections are bad for business, despite the support of the rule by hundreds of outfitters, kayakers, brewers, and other small businesses around the country. A broad coalition of groups issued a letter opposing S. 1140, and Environment America’s federal clean water advocate Ally Fields released the following statement:
 
“All this grandstanding against clean lakes, rivers, and drinking water just shows how out of step Congress is with the American public. We thank the Senate champions who are standing up to the polluters and siding with our rivers, and urge all of our senators to choose clean water.”
