Dads Ask Pres. Obama to Take Action on Global Warming

Washington, D.C. – As Father’s Day approaches, Environment America is delivering a video from dads across the country to President Obama, asking him to take action on global warming.

“President Obama has said that he wants to fight global warming because he’s concerned about his daughters and their future,” said Nathan Willcox, federal global warming program director with Environment America. “Dads across the country feel the same way, and they made their voices heard through these videos.”

Earlier this week, the International Energy Agency announced that carbon emissions increased by 1.4 percent worldwide last year, and that that could mean catastrophic temperature increases if we don’t act now.

The destruction left by Hurricane Sandy and the wildfires currently raging in Colorado—which have destroyed more than 100 homes—are frightening warnings that Americans are already experiencing the devastating impacts of a warming world.

Power plants are the single largest source of the carbon pollution that fuels global warming. Last summer, after President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency proposed the first-ever standards to limit carbon pollution from power plants, 3.2 million Americans stood up and submitted public comments in support of the standard.

“President Obama would really be the ‘world’s #1 dad’ if he put strong standards in place to limit carbon pollution from new and existing power plants,” Willcox concluded. “Dads across the country are counting on him to help protect their kids from the worst consequences of global warming.”
