Environment America endorses pro-environment candidates for 2014 elections

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Environment America and its federation of state environmental organizations announced today the endorsement of 11 candidates for U.S. Senate and 54 candidates for U.S. House of Representatives.

The endorsed candidates for U.S. Senate are:  The endorsed candidates for U.S. Senate are: Mark Udall (CO); Bruce Braley (IA), Ed Markey (MA), Gary Peters (MI), Al Franken (MN), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Corey Booker (NJ), Tom Udall (NM), Kay Hagan (NC), Jeff Merkley (OR), Jack Reed (RI). Support from the candidates on key issues, including global warming, open space, clean air, clean water and clean energy led to today’s endorsement.

Environment America’s Executive Director Margie Alt issued the following statement:

“To ensure a healthy environment, we need more voices in Congress fighting for action on global warming, measures to clean our air, stopping pollution of our waterways, protecting our most special places and promoting clean energy like wind and solar. Environment America is endorsing candidates who have shown real commitments to solving the pressing environmental concerns facing our planet, our nation, and our families.

“On November 4, voters have clear choices.  Supporting these candidates for Congress will help to ensure we tackle our climate crisis, make progress on clean air and clean water, support our national parks and bring more wind and solar energy into our lives. The 2014 election is a critical time to exercise our right to vote and our great opportunity to vote for strong environmental voices.
