Washington, DC– Margie Alt, Executive Director of Environment America, issued this statement following the UN Climate Summit and Sunday’s march for climate action, which drew an historic crowd of 400,000 in New York City alone.

“Now is the time for meaningful action to solve the climate crisis. The science about the harms we’re already facing has never been clearer; and after Sunday’s historic march, the demand for solutions has never been louder.

“Those solutions are at our fingertips, starting with tough limits on carbon pollution and the transition to clean, renewable energy.

“Unfortunately, polluters and their allies in the halls of power are still intent on blocking steps to avert the worst impacts of global warming.

“World leaders could not have a starker choice: the people in the streets or the polluters in the board rooms. America can lead the way on climate action by finalizing a strong Clean Power Plan that limits carbon from the biggest global warming polluters and speeds the shift to a 100 percent renewable energy future.”
