Clean Energy Tax Credits Saved Alaskans more than $7.5 million
Over 4500 Alaskans earned tax credits in 2023 for their solar panel installations, efficiency improvements, and more.

In 2023, 4,580 Alaskans claimed more than $7.5 million in tax credits on their tax returns for improving the efficiency of their homes or installing solar panels, according to the US Department of the Treasury.
A couple years ago, congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which included a Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit. This tax credit allows Americans to get reimbursed for 30% of the cost of installing solar panels, wind mills, and other renewable energy generation technologies. Just over a thousand Alaskans claimed this credit, saving them over four million dollars on their taxes.
The cleanest energy is the energy we never use, so the IRA also offers a Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. It provides tax credits of up to $3,200 for installing energy saving improvements like more efficient windows, insulation, and heat pumps. 3,780 Alaskans claimed this credit, saving them over $3.3 million.
Over 220 Alaska residents earned both credits on their taxes.
What’s next?
Soon, IRA benefits will include rebates for weatherization, heat pumps, electrical panels, rewiring, and more.
Interested in taking advantage of these tax credits yourself? They’ll be available for a few more years. Learn more about the technologies and how they work in Alaska in our Clean Energy Home Toolkit.
