Pass the Digital Product Repair Act
Take action to improve electronic repair access in Alaska via the Digital Product Repair Act.
Alaska Environment canvassers are talking to folks at their doorsteps about passing right to repair legislation in an effort to reduce e-waste and expand electronic repair options.
Alaska’s Right to Repair bill will pick up where it left off next spring, and this crew is canvassing door to door to build the public support necessary to make sure it passes.
Electronic waste is the fastest growing wastestream in the world, it contains toxic material, and it’s mostly not recyclable. More and better repair options will help a lot, but companies often restrict access to necessary spare parts and tools. This in turn forces people to replace rather than repair their electronic devices.
The Digital Product Repair Act will help keep electronics like cellphones, dishwashers, and even tractors in use and out of landfills. It will also give us better local options for repair so that we don’t have to rely on the global supply chain to constantly bring us new stuff.
Alaska Environment canvassers will knock on doors throughout Anchorage, speak with thousands of Alaskans, sign on members for the organization, fundraise, and gather signatures in support of the legislation. If they come to your door, offer to refill their waterbottles and sign up to support!
