Our Conservation team stands up for Arctic in D.C.
Our national network’s staff are a voice in the nation’s capital for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the polar bears, caribou and migratory birds that call it home.
Our network’s Conservation team—led by Public Lands Advocate Erik DuMont and Conservation Fellow Jamie Lockwood—joined a broad coalition of environmental groups to stand up for the Arctic Refuge. On Sept. 4, after weeks of meetings with members of Congress and their staff, Erik and Jamie joined their coalition partners in a lobby day to make one last big push to pass a key measure to protect the Arctic Refuge from drilling.
“Drilling on the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge would do irreversible damage to one of the most pristine and wild places left in America,” said Jamie. It was the first lobbying experience of her career.
On Sept. 12, the bill passed with a bipartisan 225-193 vote.
