Ariz Reps including Sinema, Kirkpatrick vote to block Clean Power Plan in spite of increasing calls for bold climate action

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House voted yesterday to derail the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, which makes deep cuts in carbon pollution from power plants, the nation’s largest source of global warming pollution. Bret Fanshaw with Environment Arizona issued the following statement in response:
“The world’s leading medical journal calls climate change a ‘medical emergency.’ Pope Francis is asking ‘every living human on earth’ to come together to solve global warming. The American public supports cuts on carbon pollution by wide, bipartisan margins.
“Yet some Arizona Representatives, including Kyrsten Sinema and Ann Kirkpatrick, just voted to curtail the Clean Power Plan – the biggest action our nation has ever taken to solve global warming and the centerpiece of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.
“We can’t afford politicians who live in denial or in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry. The American people deserve better and our children deserve better. We need our leaders to end their obstruction and embrace the bold action that will give our children a safer, healthier future.”
