Environment Connecticut, Environment America endorse re-election of Gov. Ned Lamont, Sen. Richard Blumenthal

HARTFORD, Conn. – Environment Connecticut and its national office Environment America announced Wednesday that they are endorsing the re-election of Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

Governor Lamont has led efforts to clean Connecticut’s air and to mitigate climate change’s threat to its communities. In 2022, he signed new laws requiring all of the state’s electricity supply to come from clean, zero-carbon sources by 2040 and slashing pollution from cars, trucks, and buses on the state’s roads.

Sen. Blumenthal is a longtime environmental defender who Environment America endorsed as far back as 2010. We’ve worked closely with him on everything from cleaning up power plants to eliminating the toxic chemicals known as PFAS. Senator Blumenthal’s conservation work is especially notable. He has been a staunch defender of the threatened Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument off the coast; he recently urged the Biden Administration to designate Plum Island, an 840-acre island off the coast of the North Fork of Long Island, as a national monument; and he’s the author and chief sponsor of the Extinction Protection Act in the current Congress.

“Between Governor Lamont’s leadership in Hartford and Senator Blumenthal’s accomplishments on Capitol Hill, Connecticut punches well above its weight when it comes to building a more sustainable future,” said Environment Connecticut State Director Chris Phelps. “Each of these green champions has set a high bar to date in their respective offices. Given their momentum, with another term, they can each achieve even more for everyone here in Connecticut, and in Senator Blumenthal’s case, across the U.S. as well.”
