Environment Illinois, Environment America endorse U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, Eric Sorenson for Congress

CHICAGO – Environment Illinois and its national office Environment America announced Sunday that they are endorsing U.S. Rep. Sean Casten and Eric Sorenson in their Congressional races. These candidates will be staunch defenders of Illinois’ environment.

“From Chicagoland to the heartland, Illinois is a majestic state filled with natural wonders,” said Lisa Frank, the executive director of Environment America’s Washington Legislative Office. “In their respective districts, Congressman Casten and Eric Sorenson provide the best options to keep Illinois green.”

Environment America previously endorsed Rep. Casten in 2018 and 2020. As a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, he’s built a record as a green champion. SEEC PAC member. Notably, Casten was the lead sponsor of the Climate Risk Disclosure Act, which would make it easier for Americans to know how environmentally friendly their investments are. The bill would direct the Securities and Exchange Commission to require an issuer of securities to report its direct and indirect greenhouse-gas emissions and disclose its fossil fuel-related assets.

Longtime TV meteorologist Eric Sorenson has been informing the public about climate change and its effects on their lives for years. He notes that “climate change is not a partisan issue” and he will be an effective communicator and legislator for all the people of his district.
