Environment Minnesota, Environment America endorse re-election of Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Betty McCollum
MINNEAPOLIS – Environment Minnesota and its national office Environment America announced Sunday that they are endorsing the re-election of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum.
As governor, Tim Walz has instituted a clean car standard, including expanding the state’s EV infrastructure and providing grants to replace diesel school buses with electric. In addition, Gov. Walz aims to lower transportation emissions by 80% of current levels by 2040.
Rep. McCollum has been an effective champion for the environment, leading efforts to clean up toxic PFAS (otherwise known as “forever chemicals”) and protect clean air and clean water. In addition, the Congress member has advocated for our nation’s wildernesses, national parks and forests, including Minnesota’s beloved Boundary Waters. In 2016 she received the Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award from the National Park Trust, given annually to a public servant who has “demonstrated a lifetime of outstanding service, skill, resourcefulness or innovation in the preservation of land, water or historic resources for the legacy of America.” She is Chair of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee and Vice Chair of the House Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies.
“Governor Walz and Representative McCollum are undisputed green champions. From the Boundary Waters to the national Capitol in D.C, Minnesotan leaders are making their constituents — and all Americans — healthier and safer with strong environmental action,” said Lisa Frank, the executive director of Environment America’s Washington Legislative Office. “In this case, past performance is indicative of good future results. It’s time to re-elect Tim Walz and Betty McCollum.”
