Environment New York, Environment America endorse re-election of US Rep. Paul Tonko

ALBANY, N.Y. – Environment New York and its national office Environment America announced Sunday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Paul Tonko in New York’s 20th Congressional District.

Rep. Tonko says he “ran for Congress in 2008 because our nation did not have a clear energy policy.” Over the past 14 years, he’s played a key role in changing that. He was one of the lead sponsors of the CLEAN Future Act, the plan to transition the United States fully away from fossil fuels to zero-carbon emissions by 2050, with key benchmarks along the way. Tonko has also fervently advocated for investment and research into wind power technologies, developing offshore wind infrastructure and energy efficiency measures.

“Representative Paul Tonko is one of Congress’ top leaders on clean energy and clean water,” said Lisa Frank, the executive director of Environment America’s Washington Legislative Office. “Whether it’s protecting New York’s waterways or helping Americans weatherize their homes to save energy, this green champion has an extensive record of introducing and helping pass bills that make life better for his New York constituents, and all of us.”
