Environment Oregon, Environment America endorse US Reps. Bonamici & Blumenauer, State Rep. Salinas, for Congress

PORTLAND, Ore. – Environment Oregon and its national office Environment America announced Thursday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici in Oregon’s 1st Congressional District and U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer in Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District, as well as the election of State Rep. Andrea Salinas in Oregon’s new 6th Congressional District.

Rep. Bonamici works with legislators on both sides of the aisle to protect our public lands and natural resources, address climate change, move toward a clean energy future, defend science and protect the Environmental Protection Agency from political influence. As co-chair of the House Oceans Caucus and Congressional Estuary Caucus, she works to find commonsense solutions to critical problems including ocean acidification, harmful algal blooms and marine debris.

Environment America has endorsed Rep. Blumenauer twice before and he has fulfilled our expectations. Rep. Blumenauer has championed a vast array of environmental issues, from Superfund clean-ups to bicycles. Notably, he has worked to save the bees by introducing the Saving America’s Pollinators Act to create a pollinator protection board in the Environmental Protection Agency and to ban the use of the bee-killing pesticides known as neonics.

In addition to her time as a state legislator, Salinas is the former legislative director for the Oregon Environmental Council. She has a record of standing up to corporate polluters to reduce pollution, protecting clean air and water and putting Oregon on a path to 100% clean energy.

“Oregon has a handful of green champions working to ensure the sustainability of our land, water and air. Among the foremost are Congress members Bonamici and Blumenauer and state Representative Salinas,” said Celeste Meiffren-Swango, Environment Oregon’s state director. “We should send all three of them to D.C. for the next Congressional term to protect the forests, waterways and mountains that make Oregon so special.”
