Environment Texas, Environment America endorse re-election of US Reps. Veronica Escobar, Lloyd Doggett

AUSTIN, Texas – Environment Texas and its national office Environment America announced Thursday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar in Texas’ 16th Congressional District and U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, who moves from in Texas 35th  Congressional District to the newly created 37th District.

Rep. Escobar is a key member of both the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and the Armed Services committee, where she sponsored the Department of Defense Climate Resiliency and Readiness Act, designed “to ensure that one of the largest producers of greenhouse gasses prioritizes necessary developments in renewable technologies, builds on the success of NetZero pilots, and makes judicious use of taxpayer dollars.” She’s also been a champion of protecting the Castner Range as a national monument

Rep. Doggett has voted nearly 100% of the time for environmental and climate bills during his Congressional tenure. He has introduced several such bills this session, including two bills to make transportation more environmentally friendly —  the Green Transportation Act and the EV CHARGE Act. He played a key role in securing tax credits for electric vehicle charging stations in the Inflation Reduction Act. And he helped convince the Austin Independent School District to convert its diesel powered school bus fleet to all electric by 2035.

“Congress members Escobar and Doggett are green champions who recognize and are meeting the challenge of climate change,” said Environment Texas Executive Director Luke Metzger. “Representative Escobar’s multifaceted leadership on this complex issue — from protecting public lands in El Paso to taking on foreign entities exacerbating the climate crisis — bodes well for the people of her district, all of Texas and beyond. And as sprawl overwhelms Texas, Representative Doggett’s work on reducing transportation emissions and transitioning to electric vehicles has never been more timely. Both deserve another term to build on their impressive accomplishments and future goals.”
