Environment Virginia, Environment America endorse US Reps. McEachin, Spanberger, Beyer for Congress

RICHMOND, Va. – Environment Virginia and its national office Environment America announced Sunday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Reps. Donald McEachin, Abigail Spanberger and Don Beyer to Congress.

Rep. McEachin, seeking re-election in Virginia’s 4th District, has earned the title of “green champion.” He was the lead author of the 100% Clean Economy Act and this Congressional session, he’s introduced environmental bills including on air quality, lead removal, combating fossil fuels, and offshore drilling. Rep. McEachin sits on the Select Climate committee as well as many Energy & Commerce subcommittees. He’s the vice chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition.

Rep. Spanberger has been representing Virginia’s newly redrawn 7th Congressional District with an eye on sustainability. On the House Agriculture Committee, she serves as Chair of the Conservation & Forestry Subcommittee. She works with farmers and agribusiness in her district to improve conservation practices. In addition, she has sponsored legislation to increase renewable energy and co-sponsored legislation to help get the lead out of water in schools.

In Virginia’s 8th Congressional District, Rep. Beyer has been a strong proponent of decarbonizing our transportation system. A car dealership owner, Rep. Beyer advocates for clean cars and he led a bill to reduce emissions from airplanes that was enacted this summer. In addition, he is a long-time champion of endangered species, who co-chairs the Endangered Species Caucus and has been the lead sponsor of wildlife corridor legislation.

“Virginia is for lovers… of nature. From the Shenendoah to the coast, the wildlife and landscapes of Virginia are among the most diverse and beautiful anywhere — and Reps. McEachin, Spanberger and Beyer are working to keep it that way,” said Elly Boehmer, Environment Virginia’s state director. “These three Congress members have accomplished so much to keep our land, air, water and communities clean, safe and healthy. They each deserve two more years to build on those accomplishments.”
