The super bowl of environmental ads

Which of these environmentally themed ads did you like best?

If you watched the Super Bowl last Sunday, you saw a whole lot of advertising — some of it quite entertaining. If the ads were any good, they convinced us to not only buy more stuff, but that we need more stuff (which, broadly speaking, we don’t). And of course, making, transporting and selling it all depletes resources and despoils our beautiful little stretch of the planet. 

That said, two companies in particular used their advertising time to promote something better, a product or idea with environmental themes and values. 

Consider this my super bowl of green advertising. Which of these ads did you like best? 

No Way Norway by General Motors

Get Back to Nature by Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s and Tracker

Note: I considered the “The Middle” by Jeep, an ad campaign that has since been paused. Although the ad didn’t promote a green product — a combustion engine car — its imagery and transpartisan message make it worth mentioning. And let’s be clear, the environment needs support from people and elected officials across the political spectrum, i.e. people willing to seek common ground.
