U.S. Senate votes to revitalize American infrastructure
On Aug. 10, the U.S. Senate finally voted yes on a historic investment in our nation’s infrastructure.
After years of failed “Infrastructure Weeks” and months of debate, on Aug. 10, the U.S. Senate finally passed a historic investment in our nation’s infrastructure.
The Senate’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act marks the largest proposed investment in clean energy transmission and electric vehicle infrastructure ever made, allocating $40 billion to modernize transit, $5 billion to electrify school and transit buses, and $27 billion to strengthen our clean energy grid. The act included other environmental victories, such as funding lead pipe removals, reconnecting wildlife habitats and cleaning up Superfund sites.
“The infrastructure we build impacts our health and the environment for decades into the future,” said Environment America President Wendy Wendlandt. “This historic investment will leave our country healthier, stronger and more resilient.”
But there’s still progress to be made. This legislation now heads to the House, where Environment America helped deliver a letter signed by 180 U.S. representatives urging House leadership to include energy efficiency and clean energy transportation tax incentives in the final bill.
