Vanderbilt University commits to 100% renewable energy

On April 22—Earth Day—Vanderbilt University announced that its campus will be powered entirely by renewable energy by 2050. This wide-ranging commitment includes developing more clean energy on campus, investing in large-scale, off-campus renewable energy sources, decreasing the carbon footprint from on-campus vehicles, and creating more sustainable infrastructure.
“Vanderbilt University is leading the charge among campuses in the southeast to a 100 percent renewable energy future,” said Bronte Payne, director of Environment America Research & Policy Center’s 100% Renewable Campuses campaign. “Students at Vanderbilt have been instrumental in building and demonstrating support for 100 percent renewable energy. Now, other colleges and universities need to follow in their footsteps toward a clean energy future.”
Vanderbilt joins more than a dozen campuses now committed to 100 percent renewable energy. Our national network is aiming to convince 50 more to join them by 2050.
