Eight hundred million dollars will soon be available to help California residents to tap even more of the power of the sun.

On Sept. 27, Gov. Jerry Brown signed SB 700 into law, which authorizes incentives for customers to install batteries with their solar energy systems. The bill will accelerate the momentum behind battery technology development.

“Just like other components of our approach to forestalling climate change, this program may start here in the Golden State, but it can’t and it won’t end here,” said Environment California State Director Dan Jacobson. “As California continues to uncover solutions to the puzzle of a renewable energy future, SB 700 provides a key piece.”

The new law marked the third Environment California victory for renewable energy in September, following SB 100, which puts the state on a path to 100 percent zero-carbon electricity by 2045 and the UC system committing to run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2025.
