Offshore wind alone could have technically met all of California’s 2019 electricity needs more than one and a half times over.

Offshore wind alone could have technically met all of California’s 2019 electricity needs more than one and a half times over.

That’s why Environment California is advocating going big on offshore wind, and on July 5, we got a step closer to that goal when a key California Senate committee passed AB525. The bill would require state agencies to boost California’s offshore wind production, and it passed the committee vote with overwhelming support.

Environment California State Director Laura Deehan testified at the bill’s hearing, saying: “The recent heat waves, wildfires and current drought emergency underscore the urgent need to accelerate our transition to a 100 percent clean energy economy,”

“One of the best clean energy sources in California is the wind blowing off our coast, where the wind blows faster and harder than anywhere else in the U.S.”

Now, Environment California and its supporters call on the full state Senate to pass the bill.
