Protect California’s Special Places and Drinking Water

Environment California is supporting Prop 68. It's a $4 billion dollar bond on the June 5 ballot that would protect California’s natural areas, safeguard our drinking water, and better prepare the state for the types of natural disasters that we’ve witnessed in recent years.

California’s natural wonders make it a special place for all who live in or visit our state. Our stunning coastline, national and state parks, rugged mountains, and huge swaths of forested areas make California unique, and it’s a big reason why we’re proud to call ourselves Californians.

It’s our job and duty to take care of our state and its many natural resources.

But we can’t look to Washington, D.C. to make it happen. Despite bipartisan support for conservation, the current administration wants to allow drilling off the Pacific coast and shrink national monuments in the West, including Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument on the California/Oregon border.

Here in California, we need to act. That’s why Environment California is supporting Prop 68. It’s a $4 billion dollar bond on the June 5 ballot that would protect California’s natural areas, safeguard our drinking water, and better prepare the state for the types of natural disasters, such as wildfires, that we’ve witnessed in recent years.

Specifically, Prop. 68 includes funds for the following: connecting habitat areas, addressing long-deferred maintenance at state parks, protecting coastal watersheds and wildlife, restoring rivers and streams, protecting mountain watershed areas, cleaning our groundwater, and improving our resilience to climate change. Get more details here.

Prop 68 has been endorsed by the Los Angeles TimesSan Francisco ChronicleSan Jose Mercury NewsSacramento BeeSanta Rosa Press Democrat and others. Groups like The Nature Conservancy, American Lung Association in California, Trust for Public Land, California Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of California Water Agencies also support Prop 68.

We hope you’ll join us in supporting Prop 68. In addition, please talk to your friends and neighbors about this important issue, or share this blog with them. Together, we can stand up for California, its water and its special places.
