Environment California Research & Policy Center’s LA Solar Video Contest
Sunlight. Camera. Action.
Drumroll please – And the first place winner of the Environment California Research & Policy Center’s Solar Video Contest is Alex Loverde’s video: “It’s Time.”
Congratulations to Alex and everyone else who participated in our contest. After wathcing the videos that were submitted to our contest, the Environment California Research & Policy Center team was inspired.
Alex’s video, in particular, reflects the fact that LA is a city in the sun, perfect for generating clean solar power, and it’s time to go solar in a big way because, as the video says, “Los Angeles, is a place of what’s possible.”
We’re also equally inspired by our second and third place winners. Second place is awarded to “Go Solar!” by Ms. Vargas’ 6th Grade Class at Micheltorena Elementary School, whose enthusiasm for solar power is infectious.
Third place and People’s Choice Award goes to the 1st grade classes from Plasencia Math and Science Magnet Center with their video “Let’s Go Solar: The Solution is in the Sky,” which reminds us that “there’s so much to gain and nothing to lose” by tapping into the power of the sun.
To curb the worst effects of global warming and take a big step in the right direction for LA’s air quality, we have got to do better. The fact that LA averages 329 sunny days a year and is still getting less than 1% of its energy from the sun is crazy.
Thank you to everyone who submitted videos, voted and passed word of the contest along to friends. Thanks also to our dedicated Hollywood judges:
- Carter Oosterhouse, TV personality
- Chris Paine, filmmaker
- Amy Smart, actress
P.S. You can share the winning videos with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter.
