Statement: State releases report showing California’s marine protected area network benefits ocean life

Just one month after members of the California Natural Resources Agency represented California at the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) in Montreal, this week, the agency’s California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) released a seminal report for the 2022 Decadal Management Review of California's Marine Protected Area (MPA) Network and Management Program.

Statement: AGs defend California’s waiver for Clean Car Standards

A coalition of 20 states and three cities filed a motion on Thursday to intervene to defend the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to restore California’s waiver under the Clean Air Act, which allows them to set stronger greenhouse gas emission standards than the federal government. The motion responds to a lawsuit filed by 17 Republican-led states, challenging EPA’s action in March, 2022 to restore state authority.

As California seeks to secure a 100% renewable electricity grid to address the climate crisis, the California Energy Commission (CEC) has released their initial Offshore Wind report with goals of 3,000 MW of offshore wind energy by 2030 and 10,000 to 15,000 MW by 2045 with a potential of 20,000 MW by 2050, with sufficient technological improvements.
