Gov Newsom. and the Crown Prince of Norway joined forces and signed an MOU to act together on climate!
California is the 5th largest economy in the world and has pioneered policies to reduce emissions from cars, trucks and buses and tap into solar power and batteries for clean energy. Norway has fully embraced California EVs with 80% of cars sold last year being electric! Although we lead the U.S., California can stand to learn a lot from Norway about accelerating EV sales. Only 25% of our new car sales were EV in 2023!
Norway is also the home of Equinor wind, the company that plans to develop offshore wind off the coast of California. Gov. Newsom recently set a goal of generating 25 GW of offshore wind- enough power for 25 million households by 2045.

At the event Laura joined state environmental leaders, Gov. Newsom’s Senior Advisor for Climate, Lauren Sanchez, California Air Resources Board Chair, Liane Randolph and California Energy Commission Chair David Hochschild, along with State Directors from Victoria Rome, State Director for NRDC and Katelyn Roedner-Sutter, California Director for EDF, to celebrate California recently securing the waiver to keep our strong clean car rules and leading the nation in clean energy. As Gov. Newsom and Jan Christian Vestre, Minister of Trade from Norway agreed- the best is yet to come.
We are eager to work to make that true!
