New energy efficiency rebates available to Californians
Federally funded rebates for energy efficiency and electrification upgrades now available for multifamily buildings

Yesterday the California Energy Commission (CEC) announced that it is now accepting applications for the first phase of the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEEHRA) program. The program will provide $80 million for low- and moderate-income households to retrofit their homes with efficient electrification projects to help Californians save energy, save money and reduce pollution.
Applications are now being accepted for the first phase, which will fund projects at multifamily buildings. The second phase targets single-family homeowners, and will launch in the next several weeks.
By encouraging the installation of efficient electric appliances like heat pump HVAC systems, heat pump water heaters and electric stoves, these rebates will help make buildings more efficient and comfortable while saving Californians money and energy.
Federally-funded programs from the Inflation Reduction Act are already benefiting Californians throughout the state. 397,970 Californians claimed more than $1.6 billion in tax credits on their 2023 tax returns for installing solar or making other energy efficiency improvements on their homes.
Multifamily building owners can apply for the new HEEHRA rebates and check eligibility here.
