SACRAMENTO — For the first time, for a few minutes on April 30th at 2:50pm, 100% of California’s electricity was coming from renewable sources like wind and solar, according to the California Independent System Operator, the state agency that tracks this information.

For decades, Environment California has advocated for renewable energy. According to the Public Policy Institute of California’s most recent poll on Californians and the Environment, strong majorities across party lines support prioritizing alternative energy sources such as wind and solar.

Here is a statement from Dan Jacobson, senior advisor to Environment California

“Twenty years ago no one thought we could get to 100% renewable energy. But bit by bit, bill by bill, and solar panel by solar panel we did it. This is a great day for California and the rest of the world. 100% clean energy is ready for prime time. The future is here today in California”

Environment California State Director Laura Deehan issued the following statement:

“California has shown that, for one brief and shining moment, we could do it! Now we need to get our state running on 100% clean energy for the whole day, the whole week, and the whole year. It’s time to move to 100% clean energy, 100% of the time.”
