For decades, the oil and gas industry has wanted to tear up this special place in the hopes of finding more fossil fuels.
Just recently, the Department of the Interior took important steps toward protecting this critical region, including canceling drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and finalizing a rule to protect more than 13 million acres of critical habitat in the Western Arctic. But now, this new legislation is threatening to reverse this progress.
