More than 35,000 petition signatures delivered to save the bees!
Environment California delivered over thirty five thousand petition signatures to urge Gov. Newsom to sign AB363 to reduce bee killing pesticides in the environment!
We just delivered 35,303 petition signatures to Gov. Newsom’s office in support of AB363 to help save the bees! Asm. Rebecca Bauer-Kahan authored this important bill to prohibit the worst uses of bee-killing pesticides in California.
Last year Gov. Newsom vetoed a similar measure after major opposition from Ag and chemical companies and so we have been working across the state this summer to make sure that this is the year that our governor takes meaningful action to protect pollinators.
More than ten thousand of the petition signatures came from knocking on doors in neighborhoods across the state; from Sacramento to San Diego and thousands of doors in the SF Bay area and throughout LA County.
We also asked supporters at state Environment groups across the country to sign the petition. And asked our friends at Environmental Action to share with their members too. That helped us generate 25,000 more signatures in support.
We really hope this strong show of public support will help convince Gov. Newsom to sign this important bill and give bees a fighting chance here in the golden state.
The problem of the overuse of bee-killing pesticides is getting worse, as you can see from the recent map we just updated showing how these chemicals are contaminating more of the state’s waterways, with 97% of Southern and central California samples finding high levels of this chemical in 2021.
If you haven’t yet- send a message to Gov. Newsom to sign the bill before the deadline of October 14th!
