
Groups to USDA: don’t make slaughterhouse pollution worse
Meat and poultry processing plants dump huge volumes of pollution into our nation’s rivers and other waters. As the Department of Agriculture (USDA) doles out $500 million in grants to expand meat and poultry processing, we submitted comments urging the agency to avoid exacerbating water pollution from the industry. Fourteen other groups joined our letter – including American Sustainable Business Network, Latino Farmers & Ranchers and Southern Environmental Law Center.
