New Mexico became the third state to launch Home Energy Rebates programs created thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. Only New York and Arizona unveiled programs sooner.

New Mexico launches point-of-sale rebates for insulation

Effective immediately, low-income single-family households may receive up to $1,600 off  do-it-yourself insulation products with participating retailers. The retailer will confirms a household’s eligibility. Then the customer can go to clean.energy.nm.gov to receive a rebate confirmation code and be guided on how to redeem the point-of-sale discount while purchasing the item.

Coming soon: rebates for efficient equipment and appliances

Over the coming weeks, New Mexico’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program will expand to provide low-income single-family homeowners and low- and middle-income renters (up to 150% area median income: $129,600 for an Albuquerque family of four) up to $14,000 in rebates on eligible equipment and appliances – including heat pump for space heating and cooling, heat pump water heaters, heat pump clothes dryers and induction cook stoves.

“These rebate programs will help New Mexico residents reduce energy waste,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center. “Reducing energy waste cuts pollution and household energy costs, delivering a win-win for the environment and consumers.”

Still planned in New Mexico is the unveiling of the HOMES program, which will offer rebates to eligible consumers on whole-home energy upgrades that significantly reduce a home’s energy usage. You can track the status of New Mexico launching this program at DOE’s state tracker map: energy.gov/save/rebates
