New York first in nation to deploy clean energy home rebates
Rebates for home energy assessments, heat pumps and electrical upgrades and insulation will help New Yorkers save money and reduce pollution

The state of New York is the first state to utilize rebates created by the Inflation Reduction Act (passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden in 2021) to help New Yorkers save energy and slash their energy costs. On Thursday, New York announced that it is expanding the state’s existing home energy upgrades program, EmPower+ and qualified New Yorkers can save up to $14,000 for the following energy-saving steps:
- Getting a home energy assessment at no cost
- Making electrical upgrades and installing insulation
- Installing electric heat pumps and electric heat pump water heaters
New York’s initial program prioritizes households earning under 80% of area median income.
It’s exciting to see New York become the first state to deploy the clean energy home rebates created by the Inflation Reduction Act and championed by President Biden,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy. “This is a chance for Yorkers to save money and reduce pollution. With tax credits and rebates in place, there’s never been a better time for a New Yorker to develop their plan for reducing energy waste in their home.”
