Tips for saving energy this winter

As temperatures cool and energy prices increase, here are some tips for reducing energy use.

Clean energy

In many parts of America, heating season is upon us. This winter heating bills are expected to be much higher for all major fuel sources. To save costs and reduce pollution, now is the time to take charge of your home energy use.

Our tips to get started include:

  1. Weatherseal. Caulking and weatherstripping windows are simple and effective sealing techniques to prevent “just right” air from escaping your home. Some great tips on how to air seal are here.
  2. Insulate. Make sure spaces such as basements, chimneys and attics are well insulated. Insulation helps reduce the amount of energy required to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.
  3. Take everyday actions to reduce energy waste. Turn off unnecessary lights, adjust your thermostat, fully power down electronics,  unplug “energy vampires”  use power strips and more.

There’s a lot that each of us can do to reduce energy use. Encourage your neighbors, family and friends to make changes as well.
