Protect Our Public Lands

Building support for a new national monument

Staff | Used by permission

On Public Lands Day (9/24), Environment Colorado staff attended an event where over 650 participants pulled more than 16 tons of trash out of Clear Creek Park.

Our staff collected photo petitions calling on Biden to designate the Camp Hale-Continental Divide as a National Monument.

Camp Hale, nestled into Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, is home to elk, bear, lynx, migratory songbirds and many more animals. Camp Hale also served as the training ground for the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. These soldiers learned how to climb, ski and survive winter conditions at Camp Hale, and went on to win a decisive battle against German soldiers in the Italian Apennine Mountains.
