Amazon can and should stop contributing to the decline of bees -- because while the company is great at speedy delivery, it can't next-day ship a new species.
Key committee passes bill to limit bee-killing pesticides
SB23-266 will limit neonics, a dangerous set of neurotoxic insecticides.
The Colorado legislature took a big step to protecting bees and pollinators by passing SB23-266, which would limit the sale of neonicotinoids (neonics).
A recent study found the western bumble bee has declined 72% over the last decade in parts of Colorado and neonics is one likely cause.
With 946 native bee species in the state, Colorado ranks 5th for bee diversity. Many flowering plants, including Colorado staples like Palisade peaches and Rocky Ford melons, depend on bees and pollinators.
As bees face die-offs, it’s critical the legislature act. Environment Colorado was in the hearing room at 11pm, testifying in favor and handing over 24,000 petitions of support and a letter of support from over 300 businesses.
The bill heads to the Appropriations committee and must clear the Senate and House before May 8.
