New Connecticut clean air and clean transportation law

On May 10, 2022 Governor Lamont signed the new Connecticut Clean Air Act into law. This new law, that Environment Connecticut advocated for, adopts strong tailpipe emissions standards for medium and heavy duty vehicles, requires all school buses to be electric by 2040, phases out diesel transit buses starting in 2024, and increases the amount of incentives and grants available to help families, businesses, and towns to switch to clean electric cars, trucks and buses. 

Severe droughts and increasingly destructive storms are climate consequences of global warming that have hit Connecticut hard. Pollution from transportation fuels, including vehicles on our roads, is the largest source of climate pollution in Connecticut. The new CT Clean Air Act is a big step towards meeting the state’s climate pollution targets and cleaning the air we breathe.
