Governor DeSantis takes action to reduce single-use plastic straw pollution

ST. PETERSBURG–Today, Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a bill (HB 771) that would have prohibited local governments from regulating or banning single-use plastic straws.

Jennifer Rubiello, state director of Environment Florida, issued the following statement:

“We’re happy to see the Governor has the good sense to veto legislation that would have made it harder for communities to reduce pollution from plastic straws. Nothing we use for a few minutes–like single-use plastic straws–should pollute our oceans for hundreds of years. We’re looking forward to the Governor continuing to make good choices when it comes to protecting the environment.”
