Environment America testifies in support of more energy-efficient furnaces

Johanna Neumann, senior director of Environment America’s campaign for 100% renewable energy testified in support of updated efficiency standards for furnaces at a Department of Energy hearing.
The Department of Energy has proposed the first meaningful update to efficiency standards for furnaces in more than 30 years. If adopted, these standards will reduce pollution that makes us sick and warms our planet.
“By requiring furnaces to use about 15% less energy, the proposed standard would cut 373 million metric tons of carbon emissions and 833 thousand tons of nitrogen oxide emissions over 30 years of sales”, said Neumann. “That’s a real and meaningful reduction in the pollution that harms the environment and human health.”
