In the lead up to Georgia’s November 6th general election Environment Georgia has endorsed Lindy Miller and Dawn Randolph in the two Public Service Commission seats on the ballot and is encouraging voters to support Amendment 1. Jennette Gayer, Environment Georgia’s Director, issued the following statement.
“I urge Georgians who care about the environment and the future we leave for our children to vote for Lindy Miller and Dawn Randolph in the two Public Service Commission seats on the ballot. Now, more than ever, we need clean energy champions in Georgia. The most recent report from the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had a clear message: We’re in much worse shape than previously thought, and avoiding the worst impacts of climate change will require transforming the world economy at a speed and scale with “no documented historical precedent.” The Public Service Commission has a huge impact on the amount of clean energy we use in Georgia and these two candidates have pledged to reduce carbon emissions and expand the use of energy efficiency and solar.
We are also urging Georgians to vote YES on Amendment 1. If passed this amendment would set up the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund and would dedicate a portion of the existing sales tax on outdoor sporting goods to be used to help fund the expansion and care of greenspaces all over Georgia.”
