Gas Industry Bill Continues to Move Through Georgia General Assembly

Atlanta–The Senate Regulated Industries Committee Passed HB 150, which requires cities to allow gas hook ups in buildings. HB 150 is remarkably similar to over a dozen bills introduced in other states around the country and is part of a national push from the gas industry to ensure Georgians continue to use gas in the face of 100% clean and renewable energy commitments in five Georgia cities (Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, Clarkston and Savannah).

Jennette Gayer, Director of Environment Georgia issued the following statement after passage.

“As Georgia’s electric grid gets greener every year, many of our cities are taking action to plan for the future now. These leaders know that efficient, electric technologies have come a long way in the past twenty years. Unfortunately, the state legislature seems committed to maintaining the status quo and helping the gas industry stay relevant in the face of climate change and more affordable renewable energy.

We urge the Senate to reject this proposal moving forward.”
