Tell NOAA: Protect oceanic whitetip sharks from overfishing and finning

Re: NOAA-NMFS-2023-0117-0001

We support increased protections for oceanic whitetip sharks. Overfishing and the international shark fin trade are driving these sharks toward extinction.

As apex predators, sharks are a vital part of the ocean, bringing balance to the food chain. The presence of sharks can also indicate a healthy ocean ecosystem. The loss of sharks is putting the delicate balance of the ocean at risk.

The oceanic whitetip shark won’t recover if overfishing continues. We urge you to make it illegal to keep and sell whitetip sharks caught as bycatch, strengthen the existing law against the shark fin trade and increase protections for these threatened sharks.
