Last chance to weigh in on mining plan adjacent to the Okefenokee Swamp

We recently got a new shipment of Okefenokee stickers that celebrate one of my favorite nicknames for the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge – ”The Wild Heart of Georgia.”

I recently returned from an Okefenokee camping trip and the abundant wildlife, stunning night skies and dark reflective waters give great truth to the phrase. But, sadly, our ‘wild heart’ is being put at risk. A proposed mine directly adjacent to the southeast corner of the swamp would threaten the swamp with light pollution, mining toxins and millions of gallons of water withdrawals that could exacerbate droughts and forest fires. 

The EPD is holding a comment period until March 20th on a draft mining plan. We need your support! If you have not already, take a moment to send a comment with our handy action tool and let the EPD know mining next to “The Wild Heart of Georgia” is not acceptable!
