Proposed Tax Credit Would Reduce Global Warming Pollution, Lower Energy Bills

Senators Snowe, Bingaman, and Feinstein on Monday introduced a bill to create a tax credit that would reward homeowners who reduce the amount of energy they use in their homes. The proposed “Cut Energy Bills at Home Act” creates a sliding scale of tax credits based on the amount of energy saved in a home, providing up to $5000 for lowering energy use in one’s home by half.

Clean Cars Would Cut Oil Use, Save Americans $260 Million on Thanksgiving Travel

As Americans prepare for the busiest travel holiday of the year, and days after the Obama administration proposed new fuel efficiency standards for cars and light trucks, a new Environment America report finds that more fuel efficient cars would significantly cut oil use and save Americans nearly $260 million at the pump this Thanksgiving alone. The report was released at an event today following the Obama administration’s announcement last week proposing new fuel efficiency and global warming pollution standards for cars and light trucks sold from 2017 through 2025.

America’s Waterways under Attack by Senators Barrasso and Heller

This week, the U.S. Senate could vote on an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that would put the health of America’s waterways like the Everglades, the Colorado River, and the Chesapeake Bay at risk.  If passed, the amendment introduced by Senators John Barrasso (WY) and Dean Heller (NV) would block the Army Corps of Engineers and EPA from restoring the Clean Water Act, leaving the drinking water of 117 million Americans vulnerable to polluters.
