What’s the best Halloween candy that doesn’t hurt forests?
Kids compare their hauls and discuss the best Halloween candy, often based on the size of the candy bar. But what about the size of the impact on forests?
It’s time to buy Halloween candy for the hoards of trick-or-treaters who will be visiting homes and businesses across the country. According to Business Insider, more than 150 million Americans will buy candy this season. that’s a lot of chocolate (and skittles and candy corn, too).
Before you grab that huge plastic bag full of fun-sized Reese’s or Almond Joy’s, you might want to know that parent company Hershey’s scored pretty low on the most recent Chocolate Scorecard, which ranks chocolate on a number of criteria includng their impact on deforestation and climate and their use of pesticides.
You may want to consider subbing in some environmentally friendly chocolate brands this season. Or contact your favorite chocolate company and ask them to do better.
