(PORTLAND, MAINE) – Environment Maine released the following statement to call on Congressman Jared Golden to support America’s transition to a 100% clean energy economy:

“Mainers are already experiencing the impacts of climate change in their state and understand the growing threat the climate crisis would have on local communities and economies. We believe it is time for our federal leaders, including Congressman Golden, to support bold climate action by transitioning our country to 100% clean energy and by cosponsoring the 100% Clean Economy Act of 2019.”

“By shifting to 100% clean energy, we would be able to mitigate the catastrophic impacts of climate change, improve our national security, spur clean energy development, protect Mainers’ health and the health of our environment. The time is now for Congressman Golden to listen to the concerns and the growing demands for climate action. ”

“The Trump administration’s deep denial of climate science is a threat to Maine’s environment, security, and public health. Leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives are taking bold action by introducing this legislation, building on the actions taken by Mainers who are moving forward with concrete climate solutions. The Trump administration is continuing to reverse policies that reduce planet-warming carbon pollution and undermine clean energy technology, showing how grossly out of touch they are with  what the people of Maine want.”
