Massachusetts legislators are ready to prioritize climate legislation

On Jan. 10, state Sen. Marc Pacheco (Taunton) and state Rep. Ruth Balser (Newton) released a letter supporting strong climate legislation in 2019. The letter was signed by more than 80 legislators from across the state.

“The policies outlined in Sen. Pacheco and Rep. Balser’s letter—such as eliminating the solar net metering caps, increasing the renewable portfolio standard and procuring more offshore wind—would represent significant progress in reducing Massachusetts’ contribution to global warming,” said Environment Massachusetts State Director Ben Hellerstein in a statement. “We can and should go even further by putting Massachusetts on track to achieve 100 percent renewable energy across all sectors as soon as possible.”

Environment Massachusetts is looking forward to working with the legislators who signed the letter and alongside other senators and representatives to pass legislation that will ensure a clean, healthy, safe future for Massachusetts.
