Washington, DC – As the Environmental Protection Agency prepares to finalize the Clean Power Plan, the first-ever federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants, Environment America, the federation of 29 state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy groups, has launched a major canvass program to educate the public about the urgent threat of climate change and identify and mobilize supporters. Over the next four months, canvassers in Seattle, New York, and Chicago will have face to face conversations with at least 100,000 people about the threat of global warming and clean energy solutions.
“Whether it’s record-breaking drought in the West, extreme downpours in the East, flooding in the Midwest, or rising seas on our coasts, Americans are feeling the impacts of unchecked global warming,” said Environment America’s global warming program director Anna Aurilio. “We’ve launched this grassroots campaign to connect the dots between climate impacts, carbon pollution, and clean energy solutions in the Clean Power Plan.”
“Our campaign is all about amplifying the urgency of cutting global warming pollution in the Clean Power Plan. This will be the biggest step the US has to tackle global warming,” said Aurilio. “We know the coal, oil and other polluters are spending millions to oppose commonsense action, so we are putting boots on the ground to make sure Americans across the country understand the promise of a clean energy future wind and solar.”
