The Cooper River will host more than 43,000 people during Saturday's bridge run. But did you know the Cooper River is one of the most polluted waterways in the country?

A report released this week by Environment America, using federal Environmental Protection Agency data, shows that Charleston waterways have a dirty secret. The report names the Cooper River the sixth worst polluted waterway in the country.

The Environment America report shows that local industries dumped more than 45,000 pounds of cancer-causing chemicals into the Cooper River in 2010.
