Mercury pollution threatens our water, air and health. In 2011, Environment America’s report “America’s Biggest Mercury Polluters” ranked Michigan as the 10th largest polluter of toxic mercury from the largest source — coal-fired power plants — with reported emissions of 2,253 pounds. Just a drop of mercury is enough to contaminate a 20-acre lake.
